Write the acknowledgement message (e.g. 'I confirm I am 18 years of age or older')
Assign the rule to a product category (all products in that category trigger the gate) or specific products
Save — the gate will trigger at checkout whenever a qualifying product is in the cart
Test the checkout by adding a qualifying product and confirming the modal appears before the payment fields

Gate trigger: 'I confirm I am 18 years of age or older and will not supply alcohol to a minor.' Assigned to the 'Alcohol & Spirits' category. The gate fires on every checkout that contains an alcohol product — before credit card details are entered.
Two gates: (1) 'I confirm I am a licensed professional and will handle this product in accordance with all applicable regulations.' (2) 'I acknowledge this product must be transported by road freight only — no air delivery.' Both must be ticked before payment proceeds.
Pro tips
Keep gate copy concise and unambiguous — long legal paragraphs get skimmed; a single clear sentence gets read and acknowledged.
Don't gate everything — overuse of compliance modals creates cart abandonment. Only gate where genuine informed consent is legally or practically required.
