Customer Groups divide your buyer base into named segments — Wholesale, Gold Partner, Institution, Distributor — each with their own pricing, catalogue visibility and checkout permissions. You assign account holders to groups manually or via auto-rules. Groups power every other B2B feature: price overrides, contract pricing, order restrictions and private catalogs all reference group membership.

What you get
Create up to 5 groups on Growth, unlimited on Advanced
Assign members manually (approve application) or via auto-rules (domain, ABN, registration key)
Groups control access to: price overrides, private catalogs, order restrictions, targeted visibility
Group-level minimum order value — enforce MOV at checkout per segment
Members see their group name and pricing tier on their account dashboard

When to use this
Set up customer groups from day one if you serve more than one type of buyer. Even a simple two-group setup (Retail vs Wholesale) unlocks most B2B pricing and catalogue features. More granular groups (Gold, Silver, Bronze partner tiers) are appropriate once you have 50+ trade accounts and need differentiated incentives.
Best suited for
How to set it up
Go to Dashboard → Customers → Groups → New group
Name the group (e.g. 'Wholesale', 'Gold Partner') and set any group-level MOV
Configure auto-assignment rules if relevant (e.g. email domain matching @partnercompany.com)
Save the group — it's now available to assign to customers and reference in price overrides and catalogs
Assign existing customers: go to Customers → find the account → Edit → assign to group
When new accounts apply, review and assign to the appropriate group during approval
In practice
Three groups: 'Retail' (public, no special access), 'Trade Account' (10% below RRP, access to bulk packaging, payment terms), 'Premier Partner' (20% below RRP, dedicated account manager, extended payment terms, exclusive product ranges). Each group is configured independently with its own pricing and catalog assignment.
Pro tips
Keep the number of groups manageable — 3 to 5 tiers is the sweet spot for most businesses. Too many segments create admin overhead without meaningful buyer differentiation.
Give groups clear, internally consistent names — use them in account approval emails so buyers understand their tier.
Review group assignment during onboarding, not later — a wholesale buyer who checks out at retail pricing because you forgot to assign them to the right group erodes trust immediately.
