Sign up for an EasyPost or Shippo account and obtain your API key
Go to Dashboard → Shipping → Live carrier rates and enter your API key
Configure your package dimensions defaults (used for rate calculation when product weights aren't set)
Add individual product weights and dimensions in the product editor for accurate rates
Enable the integration — live rates appear at checkout alongside (or replacing) your matrix rates
Test by completing a checkout to a variety of destinations to confirm rates are reasonable

A small bolt order (500g) attracts a $7.95 EasyPost rate for standard post. A bulk order of power tools (18 kg) attracts a $52.00 rate for road freight. Both are accurate. A flat rate would have overcharged the bolt order and undercharged the power tools — eroding trust in both directions.
